'RACE THE TRAIN' - 9 km FUN RUN/WALK
RACE THE TRAIN COURSE DESCRIPTION
Race the Train is a great event for families. Your day starts with a free train ride from Waihi Station to your start line at Waikino. Once the train drops you on the Waikino Station platform, it's a short walk over the road and you're ready for race briefing.
This course is super-cool fun right from the start as you race through a tunnel and over the Ohinemuri River foot-bridge before you turn hard left and upstream, chasing the train along the beautiful river-side trail all the way to the finish line at Waihi Station.
When you hear the Goldfields Railway train's whistle, that's your signal to 'Race the Train' back to Waihi. The course meanders alongside the Ohinemuri River back to the finish line and if you're fast enough you'll see the train along the way. The train takes about 40 minutes from station to station.
LIMITED ENTRIES - BE QUICK
We are limited to 200 participants for this event so make sure you enter as soon as possible so you don't miss out, it will fill up fast.

If you have some gear you'd like to discard and leave at the start line, then pick up again at the finish line, that's cool. We'll have a gear drop area at the start line and we'll happily transport your stuff to the finish line/event HQ for you so you can wrap up warm again after your race. Be sure to clearly mark your gear bag so it doesn't get picked up by somebody else by mistake.

There is NO PARKING at Waikino so all competitors will start the day with a free train ride from Waihi Station to Waikino Station on the Goldfields Historic Railway. Park at Waihi Station, register for your run or walk, then it's "all-aboard" the train for the trip to Waikino. The train will drop you just across the road from the start line so you can race it back to Waihi.
